The 22nd ARW was located at March AFB until January 1994, when it relocated to McConnell AFB but without any aircraft. To enable KC-10 operations to continue as a temporary measure at March AFB, the 722nd ARW was formed. The 9th ARS was moved from March AFB to Travis AFB in September 1994, although most of the KC-10s remained at the former base. The 709th ARS was formed in September 1994, and was expected to inactivate early in 1995. The 6th ARS will move to Travis AFB later in 1995, enabling the 722nd ARW to inactivate.
